ALS in politics

The ALS is not a political party. However, in their individual capacity, ALS members have been involved in politics by supporting candidates and providing political commentary. Many ALS members support Australia’s moderate libertarian political party, the Liberty and Democracy Party.

2004 federal election

In 2004, ALS associates helped to coordinate several candidates at the federal election. Some libertarians stood as independents while other candidates stood for ‘liberals for forests’ in Queensland and Victoria. Preferences from ALS-endorsed libertarian candidates were enough to prevent the Greens from winning the Queensland and Victoria Senate seats.
